A playful first step into Cub Scouts: make friends, try new things, and discover the outdoors together.

New to Cub Scouts? Your child can join at this grade without earning earlier ranks.

Six adventures. A world of discovery.

Lions earn their rank by completing these six required adventures and at least two electives. Start with Bobcat, then explore the others in any order with your den and family.

Bobcat

Scouts make friends in their den, practice being friendly, and discover what “Do Your Best” looks like in everyday life. With a parent or guardian, they also complete age-appropriate personal-safety activities at home.

Fun on the Run

Healthy habits start with everyday choices. Lions explore the five food groups, practice when and how to wash their hands, enjoy 20 minutes of active play, and try simple ways to rest and recharge.

Lion’s Roar

With their adult partner, Lions practice speaking up, getting away, and telling a trusted adult when something feels unsafe. They also learn how to get emergency help and move safely across streets and through parking lots.

Lion’s Pride

Families explore their own faith traditions, draw a favorite holiday or celebration, and attend a service or another gathering that expresses reverence. Lions practice showing love and kindness by making and giving someone a cheerful card or drawing.

King of the Jungle

Lions discover that helping their community begins at home. They share who is in their household, follow through on a helpful job, talk with an older adult about citizenship, and take part in a service project.

Mountain Lion

Lions prepare for a 20-minute outdoor walk with the Cub Scout Six Essentials. They notice natural and human-made things, learn what to do if separated from their group, and explore the difference between wild animals and pets.

Choose your next adventure

Scouts complete at least two electives and can keep exploring more of their interests.
