Third graders take on new challenges, develop practical skills, and discover ways to serve others and care for the outdoors.

New to Cub Scouts? Your child can join at this grade without earning earlier ranks.

Six adventures. Skills that grow.

Scouts earn their rank by completing these six required adventures and at least two electives. Start with Bobcat, then explore the others with your den and family.

Bobcat

Bears explore the promises in the Scout Oath and help create their den’s code of conduct. They learn what a denner does, practice Cub Scout signs and greetings, and discuss why doing their best matters. A parent or guardian guides personal-safety activities at home.

Bear Strong

Bears sample foods from different food groups and explore exercise that builds endurance, strength, and flexibility. They move with others, try personal exercises, and practice relaxing—learning how activity, food, and rest work together to support health.

Standing Tall

Bears explore personal boundaries through Protect Yourself Rules and a personal-space activity. With a parent or guardian, they create a family policy for digital devices. They also identify protective equipment and practice using the right safety gear for an activity.

Bear Habitat

Bears plan a one-mile walk using a map, the Six Essentials, and weather-appropriate clothing. Along the way, they observe wildlife, record favorite discoveries, and practice Leave No Trace—from managing trash and respecting animals to being considerate of other visitors.

Fellowship

Bears explore family faith traditions through art, a craft, or food and take part in a meaningful gathering. An act of kindness puts values into practice. They also learn about another faith and discover beliefs it shares with their own family.

Paws for Action

Bears explore the history and care of the U.S. flag and create a project inspired by a national symbol. They learn how a nonprofit serves people, how it is supported, and how volunteers help—then take part in a service project themselves.

Scouts complete at least two electives and can keep exploring more of their interests.
